The class tutor for all of our art courses in Salisbury and Bournemouth is Amanda.
She is a successful commercial artist and illustrator and has a relaxed and personable way with the students, meaning they warm to her very quickly, hanging on her every word each week!
Originally hailing from the nort-east of Scotland, Amanda moved south to Dorset many years ago and has taught art in local secondary schools in the past, alongside her other artistic interests.
She gained a BA Hons degree in graphic design before working as a book illustrator and graphic artist. She has collaborated with a broad range of well respected and internationally recognised companies including the International Youth Festival, BP, Elf Enterprises, Royal Scottish Orchestra, Baxters and Asda to name but a few, and does freelance work for a number of agencies too.
Amanda has an easy-going yet professional approach to tutoring here at The Seasons Art Class, talking the pupils through each step in a particular project, whether it’s a watercolour landscape, an abstract acrylic painting, a simple pencil sketch, or an oil pastel picture of a student’s family pet. She then does a step-by-step demonstration for the class, showing them exactly how to create a piece of artwork they will be proud of.
As each pupil paints their own projects, she is watching over their shoulders offering guidance and help whenever it’s needed, ensuring that no-one falls behind in any of the different course modules.
Amanda enjoys family life and has two daughters with whom she spends as much time as possible. And when the weather allows there’s nothing she enjoys more than getting out on the water and doing a bit of windsurfing in Poole bay.
Her artistic portfolio includes an assortment of different media such as scraper board, oil paints, pastels, acrylics and watercolour painting, although she particularly enjoys working with acrylic paint and oil pastels whenever the opportunity arises.
Amanda’s professional life revolves entirely around drawing, painting, illustrating and teaching our students here in Bournemouth and Christchurch, and she is currently in the process of illustrating her own children’s book for the first time.
We are delighted that she is part of our teaching team… and so it seems are our pupils!
Julie is in charge of tuition in our Bournemouth lessons and has a wealth of experience, both in running drawing and painting classes and in the curation and exhibiting of art at both Bournemouth University and in a selection of private exhibitions.
She has recently joined our team and has earned instant respect from both beginners and more advanced students for her relaxed, confident and highly experienced teaching style, readily answering pupils questions and efficiently demonstrating each individual project and technique to the classroom.
